Established by Mercy and Benson Mkandawire in 2002, Tilinanu Orphanage is a Community Based Organization within Malawi. Alice was introduced to Tilinanu Founder Mercy Mkandawire in 2009 by her nephew Spiwe, and the Pulford family began working with the Mkandawire family to provide a a building for the children on the Mkandawires land. They established Tilinanu UK a charity in its own right to support Tilinanu in Malawi. Tilinanu educates, houses and supports up to 34 Malawian girls at any one given time. Entirely funded through individual sponsorship and fundraising, it remains to this day 100% non-profit and it is our intention that it remains that way. Not a penny of donations is spent on a postage stamp, air flight or any other outside expenditures. No overheads, no hidden costs, it really is that simple. Tilinanu strives for self sustainability within Malawi and is making its way there with initiatives.

Tilinanu is the only charity we are aware of that is 100% non profit. Every penny donated goes directly to our projects, not one penny is spent on a flight or even a stamp.

Mercy Mkandawire the founder of Tilinanu is a mother to all those that she touched - today the stone was set in her memory. There was reflection, there was sadness, but ultimately all that beamed was gratitude and appreciation for her life.
She is resting in peace and these girls and this beautiful family are living in unison in her footsteps. Feeling blessed to still be learning such powerful lessons from our Malawian Family ❣
